Position Description
Bluebird Kids Health seeks a strategic operator and business executive to lead its Florida market, ensuring alignment with Bluebird Kids Health's mission, vision, values, and business objectives. Under the leadership of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the General Manager (GM) will have overall accountability for delivering market-level growth, operating, financial, quality, and patient experience outcomes. The GM will be responsible for the successful launch, growth, and performance of both de-novo and existing practices in the Florida market. They will drive the deployment of the Bluebird Kids Health care model, ensuring alignment with quality and total cost of care targets. This role requires a strategic and analytical mindset to drive growth through advanced healthcare management practices, data-driven decision-making, and continuous process improvement.
What You'll Do
Operations
- Lead, oversee, and manage day-to-day operations across all in-market locations, ensuring goals related to clinical quality, patient experience, operating, and financial performance are met or exceeded.
- Lead the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support the growth and operational consistency of a key market in a rapidly scaling organization. Ensure that processes across clinical, administrative, and operational functions are standardized to drive efficiency, quality care, and scalability while adapting to evolving business needs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure SOPs align with organizational goals and compliance standards.
- Own and implement strategies for driving operational efficiency, while maintaining a focus on the pediatric patient's care journey and experience.
- Assesses administrative, operational, and financial needs of the market and revises policies, procedures, and plans to meet changing needs.
- Lead and develop site-based and market leadership teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and upward mobility.
Strategy and Leadership
- In collaboration with the COO and Executive Leadership Team, participates in setting the overall direction, goals, objectives, and tactics of the Florida market; ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, strategic plan, and goals of the organization.
- Identifies, evaluates, and recommends new business ventures, affiliations, and partnerships consistent with the strategic business plans and the growth and market objectives of the organization. Works with Finance, Operations, and Legal teams to prepare the necessary business plans and documentation and secure approval.
Finance and Growth:
- Drive aggressive in-market growth through a combination of de-novo site development, organic growth, recruitment, innovative partnerships, risk-lives transfer, and other growth mechanisms.
- Drive the financial performance of the market, including the management of both capital and operating budgets.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing regular reports to senior management on variances to growth, revenue generation, cost control, and return on investment (ROI) targets.
- Responsible for change management required to move the market from fee-for-service to value-based care through understanding and development of risk-based models of care; while continuing to maximize value from fee-for-service book of business.
Quality Improvement & Patient Satisfaction:
- Oversee end to end patient journey ensuring patients and their families' needs are met or exceeded while ensuring efficient use of Bluebird Kids resources.
- Lead efforts to ensure that all sites achieve and maintain designations as an NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home as well as achieving distinction in Behavioral Health Integration.
- In collaboration with local practice operations leaders and the CARES Center, ensure that operations are designed and executed to promote team-based care, knowing and managing patients, patient-centered access and continuity, care management and support, and care coordination. The CARES Center is our centralized operation for call coordination, population health, clinical triage, remote urgent care, and virtual behavioral health and clinical pharmacy.
- Lead performance measurement and quality improvement initiatives to enhance health outcomes and experience.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to implement patient safety protocols and address patient concerns in a timely manner.
- Ensure all operations and business activities meet relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and requirements.
Team Development & Talent Management:
- Directly supervise all market-based practice administrators and other operations and business leaders and staff.
- Mentor and coach management teams, fostering professional growth and preparing leaders for future roles within the organization.
- Review workload demands to ensure appropriate staffing.
- Lead recruitment efforts to ensure that all practices are staffed with highly qualified healthcare professionals and support staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations, manage disciplinary actions when necessary, and promote an environment that supports staff retention.

What You'll Need
- 10+ years of progressively more senior experience working in a general management or operational role ideally with at least 5 years of experience successfully managing a P&L in a large medical group, health system, or other healthcare delivery organization.
- Track record of executing growth, financial, operating, and quality results in large, multi-site, care delivery organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to drive growth, both organic and inorganic, in rapidly scaling organizations.
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to assess the financial implications of recommendations, decisions and actions; able to understand how strategies and tactics drive market performance.
- Deep knowledge of fee-for-service vs. value-based care, ideally with experience operating within value-based care environments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in data analytics, financial modeling, and performance management a must.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, capable of motivating and driving teams to exceed expectations.
- Ability to manage high-stress situations and act with professionalism and tact.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ambitious and driven; able to set meaningful goals and engage the expertise, talent, best-thinking, and creativity of others to achieve them.
- Deep understanding of leadership, clinician, and staff needs, mindsets, and motivations and ability to factor them into growth and operating plans.
- Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues, physicians and teammates to create results-driven, team-oriented environment while fostering the Bluebird Kids Health culture.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Strong community engagement skills and experience in building relationships with key community and business stakeholders and partners.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
- Bachelor's degree with a graduate or professional degree in business, management, healthcare policy, healthcare administration or a related field strongly preferred.
- Expectations of travel.
