Florida Diabetes Camp (FDC) is a nonprofit organization that works with pediatric endocrinologists, diabetes educators, and medical staff to provide a fun, safe, and educational camp environment for children and teens with type 1 diabetes and their families. FDC programs empower campers with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to achieve their full potential.

Position Description

The Program Director is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services for all camps and community programs that foster healthy management of type 1 diabetes in an atmosphere of recreation, social engagement, education, and fun. The Program Director reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Executive Director and Camp Directors to ensure the effective daily operations of the programs.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Develop and manage the annual calendar of strategic camp programs.
2. Design and implement single-day camps and community programs across the service area.
3. Collaborate with Camp Directors and medical professionals to create engaging camp programs that combine recreation, nature, and diabetes education.
4. Coordinate venues, vendors, supplies, and logistics to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of programs.
5. Design and manage program enrollment processes and procedures.
6. Collaborate with other professional staff to communicate with new, current, and prospective families about camp programs.
7. Oversee program compliance with ACA accreditation and other standards.
8. Work with Camp Directors to manage the recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluation of volunteers.
9. Develop and implement initiatives to transition former campers into engaged volunteers.
10. Manage program budgets within organizational financial guidelines.
11. Track, evaluate, and report on program effectiveness, outcomes, and areas for improvement.
12. Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
13. Be knowledgeable about and adhere to Florida Diabetes Camp policies.
14. Model and maintain high ethical standards.
15. Adhere to applicable health and safety standards.
16. Maintain confidentiality regarding camp/workplace matters.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary

• Salary range is $50,000-$56,000 commensurate with experience
• Benefits offered include supplements for health insurance coverage, contributions to retirement investment accounts, and various leave programs, including vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, personal leave days, and family medical leave.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• More than one year of relevant professional experience, such as a non-profit, managing volunteer programs, education, youth development, or leading teams and/or organizations.
• Experience in management principles and evaluation techniques.
• Experience creating policies, handbooks, training materials, and/or presentations.
• Project management, planning, and organization experience with proven abilities working with various tasks, projects, and responsibilities, establishing and meeting deadlines.

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, human or social service-related field preferred.
• Three years of relevant professional experience, such as a non-profit, managing volunteer programs, education, youth development, or leading teams and/or organizations.
• Experience in management principles and evaluation techniques related to volunteer programs.
• Knowledge of type 1 diabetes.

• Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
• Must have a valid Florida driver's license and a vehicle.
• Must pass a Level II background check.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to navigate and maneuver independently at least 100 yards on wood, dirt, gravel trails or other similar rough terrain while participating in FDC's programs.
• Must be able to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions; traverse natural, uneven terrains; access temporary buildings (including tents and cabins).
• Must be able to lift/carry in excess of 20 pounds.
• Must be able to project vocal communication to large groups of children in outdoor spaces.
• Must have visual acuity sufficient to monitor youth safely.
